Ending homelessness takes more than shelter: it takes voices, compassion, and community action. Our Advocates are informed, engaged community members who share accurate information about homelessness, represent Shelter the Homeless in their networks, and help build understanding that leads to lasting change. Whether you’re ready to learn, share, volunteer, or fundraise, there’s a place for you here.
How It Works
We’ve created three tiers of involvement so you can engage at the level that’s right for you. As you grow your advocacy, your impact grows, too, and your commitment will be recognized here on our Advocate page.
Tier 1 – Awareness Advocates
First Steps, Big Impact
Why It Matters:
Awareness Advocates help keep our community informed about the realities of homelessness and the solutions that work. By understanding the issues and our role, you’re ready to share accurate, compassionate information with others.
You’re Involved When You:
- Subscribe to our e-newsletter
- Follow us on at least one social media platform (if you use social media)
- Watch our short educational video OR read our program overview PDF
Tier 2 – Community Connectors
Bringing the Conversation to Your Circles
Why It Matters:
Community Connectors help bridge the gap between awareness and action. By showing up and speaking up, you help foster understanding and reduce stigma in your own neighborhoods and networks.
You’re Involved When You:
- Complete Tier 1 expectations
- Share at least one Shelter the Homeless post on social media
- Attend a Neighbourhood Advisory Council meeting OR a Shelter the Homeless public event
Tier 3 – Change Leaders
Inspiring Action for Real Change
Why It Matters:
Change Leaders help turn compassion into tangible impact. You mobilize others, inspire giving, and ensure that everyone in our community has access to safe shelter.
You’re Involved When You Complete Tier 2 expectations AND do one of the following:
- Make a personal donation of any size
After donating:
- Help us thank other donors
- Participate in a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign
- Host a Shelter the Homeless salon event or fundraiser (with assistance from our team)
- Refer a company, church group, special interest group, foundation, or other organization for a presentation or potential donor meeting with group leadership
