Organizational Overview

Shelter the Homeless, Inc.(STH) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering and fostering economic well-being for individuals experiencing homelessness. The organization fulfills its mission by holding land and facilities, selecting and monitoring service providers, promoting accountability for public safety in the neighborhoods where homeless services are located, and convening key stakeholders to help prevent and end homelessness in Utah.
Founded in the 1980s, STH is a key stakeholder in Salt Lake County’s coordinated system of services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. STH advances its mission by developing and owning properties throughout Salt Lake County, including four Homeless Resource Centers (HRCs) that provide a total of 1,175 emergency shelter beds: the Geraldine E. King Resource Center (GEK) for women, the Gail Miller Resource Center (GMRC) for men and women, the Pamela Atkinson Resource Center (PARC) for men, and the Connie Crosby Family Resource Center (CCFRC). STH also owns two non-congregate, referral-only shelters: Most Vulnerable People (MVP), which serves aging individuals with medical needs, and Family Interim Non-Congregate Housing (FINCH). The STH Board of Directors is designed to include leaders from state, county, and city government, as well as private-sector business and philanthropic leaders.
