This family-centered emergency shelter located in Midvale provides a safe, stable environment where parents and children can remain together while accessing housing support, healthcare, childcare, education resources, and case management. Children experiencing homelessness are especially vulnerable to trauma, poor health, and educational disruption. Stable shelter helps create the consistency families need to begin recovering, rebuilding, and moving toward long-term housing and greater self-reliance.
The family resource center traces its origins to a winter overflow shelter established in Midvale in 1998,. Originally operating out of a converted warehouse and serving single adults, the “Community Winter Shelter” facility shifted its focus in 2010 to support families with children experiencing homelessness. In 2015, following significant renovations and collaborative community investment, a newly redesigned two-story Midvale Family Resource Center opened to better meet the needs of vulnerable families. Today, the center provides emergency shelter, case management, and supportive services for up to 300 adults and children each night.
The facility was renamed in 2024 in honor of Connie Crosby, a longtime advocate for children and families experiencing homelessness. Crosby served for approximately 25 years as the McKinney-Vento liaison for the Canyons School District, helping thousands of homeless students access school enrollment, transportation, clothing, supplies, healthcare, and other educational supports. According to reports, families and children connected to the shelter strongly supported naming the center after her because of her decades of compassionate advocacy and direct service.
