Located in Salt Lake City, this co-ed resource center serves up to 160 men and 40 women experiencing homelessness on separate floors, allowing couples to remain sheltered at the same facility. Many residents face chronic homelessness, physical disabilities, significant medical needs, mental health conditions, and substance use disorders. The center provides emergency shelter and coordinated supportive services, including healthcare, treatment services, case management, employment resources, and housing assistance, while helping residents build pathways toward greater self-sufficiency and permanent housing.
Established in 2019 as part of Salt Lake County’s transition to a scattered-site Homeless Resource Center model, the facility was designed to better serve individuals experiencing homelessness through a smaller, population-focused environment offering both emergency shelter and coordinated supportive services. The move away from a centralized shelter system sought to improve health and safety outcomes, reduce the strain associated with large congregate shelters, and create environments more conducive to stabilization and recovery. The resource center was intentionally designed to connect residents more effectively with healthcare, behavioral health services, housing navigation, and employment support while distributing services more equitably across the community.
The Resource Center was named from its inception in honor of Gail Miller in recognition of her longstanding leadership, philanthropy, and advocacy on behalf of individuals experiencing homelessness in Utah. Gail Miller has played a significant role in advancing community efforts to address homelessness through collaborative, compassionate, and long-term solutions. Through the Larry H. Miller Company and Miller Family Philanthropy, she and her family have supported homelessness initiatives for decades through philanthropy, direct community service, fundraising efforts, and public advocacy focused on dignity, stability, and self-reliance.
