As the first facility in Salt Lake County dedicated exclusively to women experiencing homelessness, this Resource Center provides a safer, more secure environment for a population particularly vulnerable without shelter. Developed as part of the county’s scattered-site Homeless Resource Center model, the facility offers emergency shelter and supportive services tailored to the unique needs of women while strengthening pathways toward recovery, stability, and permanent housing.
Named in honor of Geraldine E. King from its inception, the resource center’s name was publicly announced during the project’s development and groundbreaking phase in 2018, prior to the facility opening in 2019. The naming followed a $4 million contribution from her son, businessman Pat King, who sought to recognize his mother’s generosity, resilience, and lifelong commitment to helping others. Geraldine E. King was widely respected for her community leadership, philanthropy, and compassionate advocacy on behalf of vulnerable individuals and families. Her legacy reflects a deep commitment to dignity, safety, and supportive services for women experiencing crisis and homelessness.
In downtown Salt Lake City, this resource center serves up to 200 adult women experiencing homelessness in a safe, supportive, and service-focused environment. Many residents face complex challenges including trauma, chronic health conditions, domestic violence, mental illness, and substance use disorders. Through emergency shelter and coordinated supportive services, women can access healthcare, behavioral health support, employment assistance, and housing navigation services while working toward greater independence and stability.
