Casey was appointed as the executive director of the Utah Department of Workforce Services by Governor Spencer J. Cox in December 2020. The department administers approximately 100 state and federal programs with more than 2,000 employees and a budget upwards of $2 billion. More than half a million Utahns utilize Workforce Services programs each year, including workforce programs, unemployment insurance, public assistance programs, childcare assistance, refugee services, housing and community development, rehabilitation services and homeless services.
Prior to her appointment as an executive director, Casey served for more than eight years as a deputy director for the department. In 25 years with the state, Casey has been instrumental in overseeing significant departmental changes, such as forming new divisions, launching new programs and leading the department through the COVID-19 pandemic. Casey co-chairs Utah’s singular State Workforce Development Board and currently sits on the Utah Homeless Services Board.
In September 2023, Casey was elected to the Board of Directors for the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA). She is the proud recipient of the 2018 Governor’s award for leadership and the 2010 Governor’s award for innovation and efficiency.
Casey is a graduate of the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in social and behavioral health. Casey, with her husband and two sons, enjoys the outdoors, gardening, traveling, and providing service to the community.
